I had to put new(er) shocks on the hawk, which meant I needed to swap the top frame mount from the
style on the left to the style on the right.

In order to do this I had to make a spring compressor. I Macgyver'd one using the items seen here and a bench vice.

It looks like a death trap...

but it worked really well

As for the junk shocks, I just cut the springs and removed the mount.

Like new fully installed.

Rundown of the night:

The doors open Friday June 11th at 7:30pm. Anyone 21 and older are welcomed!
Daze End will be kicking off the night at 8pm, followed by Vendetta at 10pm.

Plattsburgh x Vermont weekend!

After a rough start on friday night in the burgh. The four of us (names with-held) met up with four friends of mine from school and took the boat over to Burlington, VT for the annual Magic Hat Mardi gras parade. We pre-gamed at the hotel a little long so we only saw the last 20 minutes of the parade which was basically family oriented anyway. After that came the bar crawl and the rest is what it is, a hazy memory at best. Dickswinger work as a doorman for a while, then we went bowling, found a cellphone and proceeded to dial up call girls, tried pooping a taxi, etc... you get the idea. Enjoy the photos. -thanks

The gang got together last week just before X-MAS for an annual Shit Show. Unfortunately it was mainly a blur for most of the participants this time around, thus leaving very little of the night to be remembered the next day. From what I was able to gather the picture below is a pretty accurate description. So you could say it was all shit and no show. I would like to add that waking up to a dog licking my hand and wet pants was a first for me.

Saw this last week while riding a park in the Rochester area, thought I would share it.

This Sunday (August 16th) is the annual hill climb at Poag's Hole. I have personally never been one, but I hear the experience is something along the lines of this... Bikers, rednecks, ambulance rides, derby girls (and boys), warm beer, pick-up trucks, mullets, dirt bikes, exposed nipples, tattoos, fights, crashes, girl fights, drinking/ puking, dirtbags, and the smell of mud, gas, and piss. Personally I think it sounds like a good recipe for fun! Check the flyer here for details.

Damn two days late!

Fuck it, here's a quick rundown of the past week.

-Drove over 1,000 miles across NY, and Vermont in three days, which cost me over a $100 in gas.

-Locked my keys in my car while in Vermont after a pretty good riding session at a really weird skatepark.

-Chilled with the homies in both Plattsburgh and Rochester... Plenty of beer work and fun was had.

-While in Plattsburgh I walked into a random house with a friend and was immediately greeted by this sad site.

-Matt "meat" Miller had a birthday last friday... I bought him a very classy bottle of Kentucky sour mash, but somehow it ended up back in my possession...

-My mustache and mullet have the tendency to get into mischief wherever they show up...

-Several people witnessed this scene more than once while out in rochester.

I saw this guy try to sit down in order to stand up for about five minutes. The cops weren't as amused as I was, their loss.

So I have been trying to think of new content to post about on this shit hole of a site, and seeing how I tend to post photos and write about drinking a lot I figured why not start posting on different drinks that are instrumental in making bad decisions. So to start off a new feature on this blog, I've decided my first entry would cover a new favorite of mine that I am naming the "Woodrono" (wood-ron-o), I am calling it my own since I cannot find any info or recipes with these ingredients online. The version I run is one part Gin, and two parts Polar brand Half & Half (half grapefruit juice & half tonic water) served over ice. The half & half completely masks the powerful taste of the gin... So you end up with a good tasting drink that gets you fucked faster than the homecoming queen after the big game. Enjoy!

Crabmeat, Meat Matt, and D-mud... Nicknames for everyone

Because I'm lazy and overall slow at life this is going to be a two part post first part today (obviously), and part two sometime later (but before next monday).

Oswego was a good break from what was becoming a normal routine of work, sleep, drink, ride... I spent most of the two days I was there playing the "Washer" game, drinking, riding drunk to and from the bars, sitting idle, and arguing over whether or not we met Tim McGraw who was scrapin' on old broads in his four wheel steering Chevy... Just the break I was looking for. Of course I managed to take next to no photos of anything that happened...

This is one of two photos I took. These Busch heavy's were only $2 a pop, so I'm not sure why there is a middle finger is in there... @ Gary's.

Old photo update part 2

So I found another old shoe box of photos in my attic mostly from 2001- 2002. After rummaging for at least an hour I came to realize just how much money I used to spend on film and lab fees. Lets just say the cost of the current items in the shoe box exceeded the cost of the shoes that originally came in the box tenfold. Below are some favorites.

This is Dave Gross, the First time I met dave was at a contest in 1997 at the long gone and forgotten World of Wheels Skatepark located in Springville, NY (I'll post more photos from and maybe a video or two later). That was the very first time I went to a skatepark, rode ramps, and entered a contest. Dave and I had a run-in during practice He was sitting on a quarter in a smith stall looking back talking to someone. While I, with no idea of what park etiquette was, tried carving on the same quarter. Needless to say dave dropped while still looking the other way and mowed me down. Here dave is doing a smith grind on a ledge at another now closed park in Warren, PA several years later. Circa fall-winter of 2001-02.

"The man with the plastic shoes and fucked up pants". Those words could only describe one person Matt Miller. Matt used to always wear pants that were ripped half way up his leg on the drive side. They would often look like a cape when he rode. This is a really shitty photo of what was probably a really high opposite air, but the jeans in this photo were too good to pass up.

Double J, Jimmy J., Jim Johnsen, whatever you call him he's the shit, but I haven't got any new Motive shirts in quite some time. What gives? About 20 minutes before I took this in the summer of 2002, Ian and myself were trying to melt a plastic bar-end out of a pair of handle bars with a propane torch when Jim's hot old sister came home (Jim was inside the house during this time) and looked concerned and confused over why there was two strange guys using a torch, pounding on the cement with bike parts, and filming it at the same time. Lets just say there was a few seconds of awkwardness. Long Island.

Fall 2001 smith to 180. Gay shoulder positioning and a orange helmet with a jack-o-lantern painted on it... Awesome!

This is one of the photos responsible for me obtaining the nickname "Osama Bin Woodruff"... Apparently After 9-11 it became illegal to take photos of buildings, bridges, and landmarks while driving through NYC. About a week after a trip to long Island I received a phone call from an Agent Frank "something" who questioned me about having taken photos from out of my friends cars sun roof. Supposedly good Samaritan saw me taking photos and thought Ian and myself (two 19 year old white kids driving in a 1993 Acura) were terrorists plotting to blow up the Throgs neck bridge or some shit and turned in Ian's plate number. Frank asked that I mail him all the negatives that I took on the trip to his office at the FBI HQ and I never heard from him again. I'm glad I at least kept the prints. Summer 2002.

Posted are some photos from 2001- 2005, a time when I drank less, rode more and had few responsibilities. I'll try to sprinkle some more of these old gems in with whatever new content for the rest of the summer.

-Filming for a new video

-Living at home means not paying rent

-Working nearly full time

-Hornell still sucks

-Pissing while your penis is still inside your pants

-Riding ghetto bikes to the bars which are in the ghetto part of town

-Having friends who are as drunk as me

-Sleeping outside sans tent

-Waking up to being rained on because I don't own a tent

-Not being able to walk to the bars

-Grilling

-Random drunk day walkers

-Jumping/Falling into the lake

-This weekend's demolition derby + Camping without a tent

Overall, I think the good things in the list out weigh the bad...

Wow... Last weekend's Video premiere party for Up And At Them was better than we could have expected.

Get Ready For More!

Our 4th annual BMX video premiere party is less than two weeks away. Word is getting around and it's looking like this years party could be the biggest party to ever go down in Hornell. Last year's party "Last Call" was thought to be the last public party for our annual Video release. However after piling in 230+ people into the somewhat small banquet hall at the Hornell Association and receiving all of the positive feedback from everyone who attended, we felt the need to push on and see how big of a party we could throw. So this year we more than doubled the size of the venue, added a third kick ass band to the lineup and extended the time of the party to run a whole extra hour (7-1).

The Line up

At 7pm doors open and Daze End goes on stage. Most of the members of Daze End were formally called The Unknown, who's very first show was at the first party we held. We are also working on a door prize raffle for people who come to the party between 7-8.
Second in the line up is Vendetta. CLICK HERE to check them out.
Third, around 11pm we are going to show "Up And At Them" the latest installment of BMX and drunken Shit Shows. You can watch the Trailer HERE.
Finally, GO DOWN FIGHTING (all original members) will be shutting down the night.

Pre KISS tattoo halfpacker when it was only a little illegal to ride on the tennis courts.

So I'm riding flat at Ass Park yesterday when all of a sudden I pull the best fucking halfpacker of my life. I'm talking long, smooth, in and out clean, you know the kind you want to end your video part with. And of the thirty or so skate and bike rats there do you think any of them happen to have caught it on film? Nope. The enormity of the moment was not lost on a few who did bare witness. The chosen ones promptly let me know about it immeadiatley after in the form of rucous applause. It won't be in my video part, but I'll take it.

The Leak!

So I decided to leak some of the music for the new video and a sneak peek at the DVD's cover art which is of course inspired directly by the feel of the music in the video.

Starting at the top left and moving clockwise is, Johnny B., Matt Miller, Nathan Woodruff, Mike Sick, and Todd Huffman (Todd doesn't ride).

The video below was the defining factor when it came down to selecting music for the video that would give "Up and At Them" a true and timeless feel that I am going for. I think after you watch it you will understand that power ballads still define the cutting edge of music. In fact, no other genre of music since then has been able to capture the beauty and raw power that was so overly produced in the 1980's. In my opinion power ballads will only continue to gain in popularity as time passes, just look at how well off some of the masterminds behind these classics are today, many former band members and front men have cable TV shows!

I'm really glad I didn't just go for flashy looks and what's trendy... it might look like the video below... not on my watch!

Best friends?

Spring break is over, wild things happened or didn't happen... The Video is just over half done and photos for the DVD covers are shot (just need to put the layout together), and filming is so far beyond done (FUCK!). I got out and rode five of my ten day break which is a first since last August, and even got to party down with the the Crew (is there a name for our group of friends?) on more than one occasion.

Being able to ride outside in T-shirt weather for three consecutive days in March is an amazing thing if you live in Upstate NY.

This has been the best spring break ever! I made the trip down from Alaska last Thursday and made it into town just in time to put a few too many drinks to my face. I'm sorry again Benny for puking undigested corn all over your house... Friday and Saturday "MeatStick", myself and the locals cruised around ASS Park for a few hours knocking the dust off... Sunday I took a trip to Rochester and piled some bikes on the rack (thanks Ian), and some buddies in the car and headed out to a larger version of ASS Park called B-Park. Good times this week so far, now I have some video work to get done.

Wild times in Erie, PA. Motley Crue took over the town and killed it. Everyone at our motel was in town to see the Crue. We started tailgaiting as soon as we got there. The party continued through the night and into the morning.

Six random things that happened this weekend.

6. Benny's nut sack was fully out while at the bar @11 am on Saturday.

5. Matt got out of the car at red lights to chase a kid on a bike, while only his boxers and holding a cardboard sign with the word "HELL" painted on it.

4. "Why you guys come here?" This was asked by several locals at Fitzpatrick's Pub

3. Ian was calling it quits at 12:45 Friday night, only to end up dancing on every "body" in the next bar.

2. We went for breakfast at 10am Saturday morning. Then we stopped at a bar on the way home. We never got home from breakfast until after 5pm.

Extra facts:

We believe the six of us spent the better part of a grand on booze this weekend. Mike spent $240 on one credit card alone.

I don't have any actual numbers, but I'm pretty comfortable in saying the six of us together consumed more than 220 drinks in two days.

Each of us had spent roughly 15 hours drinking on saturday.

I lost my voice at noon Saturday, and it's yet to return as I post this.

At 6pm Saturday one gallon of ArborMist wine lasted 15 minutes.

Not much news this week... School has really cut into my drinking time, and it's been either snow or below zero or both outside. If you are a steelers fan you're stoked to see them win the big show, if not you probably don't care who won or you feel bad for the Cardinals... The only reason why I mention it is because it was one of the only party days up here. 30 cent wings and $1.75 pitchers gets things done!

Somehow this got over looked on my camera, if someone I was fighting with smacked me that hard I'd prolly do something.

I saw this on one of those blogs that the cool kids look at and was pumped to see a bunch of riding by Bob Edson from Buffalo at the end. It's awesome to see old friends still shred.

I'm back at school after a short be fun break, I lost some weight, and rode a little, filmed some great clips for the video, and only slept walked once! Yesterday marked the end of another wild ass weekend and the end of winter break... This time next week I'll be grinding out classes and freezing balls in the tundra like weather of the "north country".

Great News! The Video Premiere Party is now officially, mostly, sorta, might happen on Saturday the 25th of April of 2009. Mark your calendars, cellphones, titties, and dicks for this special event... The details are still coming together, but I can confirm the party will be at a larger venue and three live bands... Holiday Happenings

Matt and I took advantage of Monday's freakishly nice weather, and rode some street in Alfred, NY. It was only in the 40's but the snow was gone and the cement was dry for the most part.

I've been riding the Alfred State and Alfred U. campuses for years, seeing a 1/4 pipe and various small ramps in the middle of campus is a first. It's awesome to see the college supporting BMX and Skateboarding in such a positive way.

In other amazing news, a small quantity of the "Drivers Wanted" T-shirts were made and distributed just in time for the Holidays... The things are sick, and there have already been some inquiries.

I have also been building a mini bar(with the help of E-Z) to take back to school with me. I'm not sure yet what the hours of business are, but I can tell you the bar will be well stocked with Genny Light, and Pabst.
